MADE IN ENGLAND

PEARDROP SILENCERS SOMETIMES CALLED KIDNEY SILENCERS USED ON MODEL 7 AND WIDELINE TWINS.  SEE PICTURE TO SEE IF IT IS THE STYLE YOU REQUIRE.  

RECENTLY COMPLETED HERE IN OUR WORKSHOP, MADE BY HAND, TIG WELDED, A SLOW AND DIFFICULT JOB WITH OVER FOUR HOURS INVESTED IN EACH SILENCER, NO EXPENSE SPARED, POLISHING AND PLATING ALONE COST £27.00 EACH.  ON THE REAR OF THE SILENCER WE HAVE INSTALLED TWO THREADED BOSSES FOR MOUNTING.  SUPPLIED COMPLETE WITH STAINLESS FIXING BOLTS AND WASHERS.  


INTERNALLY SOUND REDUCTION USES THE PERFORATED TUBE SYSTEM, THIS IS VERY EFFICIENT IN PERFORMANCE TERMS BUT WILL BE SOMEWHAT LOUDER THAN THE ORIGINAL COMPLICATED BAFFLE ARRANGEMENT.  THE PERFORATED TUBE HELPS PERFORMANCE AND ALSO REDUCES PROBLEMS OF CONDENSATION AND MOISTURE RETENTION WHICH OFTEN CAUSES INTERNAL CORROSION AND ULTIMATE FAILURE.  THE MOUNTING ARRANGEMENT CONSISTS OF TWO THREADED BOSSES AND WASHERS ARE PROVIDED.  A NICELY MADE 100% UK PRODUCT.

A FURTHER NOTE ON SILENCER INTERNALS
WHEN WE FIRST MADE THESE SILENCERS, ALONG WITH THE DOMMIE SILENCER WE DID SO BECAUSE AT THAT TIME (ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO) NEITHER OF THESE SILENCERS WERE AVAILABLE SO WE FIRSTLY ACQUIRED ORIGINAL SAMPLES AND DISECTED THEM.  THE DOMMIE SILENCER IN PARTICULAR WAS PARTICULARLY COMPLICATED INTERNALLY AND QUITE RESTRICTIVE.  WE DECIDED TO USE THE PERFORATED TUBE ARRANGEMENT WHICH IS VERY EFFECTIVE IN REGARDS TO PERFORMANCE, PREVENTS THE BUILD UP OF MOISTURE WHICH CAN OCCUR WITH VEHICLES USED PREDOMINANTLY FOR SHORT JOURNEYS, IS FAR EASIER TO FABRICATE AND INSTALL AND USUALLY GIVES A NICE DEEP MELLOW NOTE.  THAT WAS THE THEORY AND IT CERTAINLY WORKS VERY WELL WITH THE COMMANDO BUT IT WOULD CERTAINLY TEND TO BE NOISIER THAN THAT INSTALLED ORIGINALLY SO AS WE BUILT THE PEARDROPS WE QUICKLY FINISHED ONE FOR TESTING ON A SINGLE.  AT THAT PARTICULAR MOMENT IN TIME THE ONLY SINGLE CYLINDER BIKE I HAD ON THE ROAD WAS A VELOCETTE VENOM SO ON WENT A SILENCER AND OFF I WENT SETTING OFF FROM HERE (HAILE BANK) FIRST THERE IS A COUPLE OF HUNDRED YARDS OF A ROUGH TRACK LEADING TO THE ROAD, TURNING RIGHT GIVES A MILE OF DRIVING THROUGH THE VILLAGE, TURNING LEFT GIVES A FEW HUNDRED YARDS OF TWISTY ROAD FOLLOWED BY A LONG SLIGHTLY UP HILL STRAIGHT WHICH IS NORMALLY VERY QUIET AND GOOD FOR TESTING. UNFORTUNATELY A VAN WAS APPROACHING FROM THE RIGHT AND I HAD TO PULL OUT BEHIND IT AND DAWDLE UP THE HILL THROUGH THE TWISTY BITS.  WHILST THE BIKE RAN WELL AND SOUNDED NICE IT WAS HARDLY AN IN DEPTH TESTAS I REALLY WANTED TO TEST FOR FLAT SPOTS (NO ADJUSTMENT OR REJETTING WAS DONE, SIMPLY A SILENCER SWAP OVER) AND ALSO JUDGE MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE AND NOISE LEVEL.  
SO BASICALLY I CUT THE VAN UP SOMEWHAT AND HAMMERED DOWN THE STRAIGHT, THAT BIKE RAN BEAUTIFULLY, PULLED WELL, SOUNDED GOOD AND I WAS HAPPY.  I STOPPED AT THE END OF THE STRAIGHT TO RETURN HOME, THE VAN DRIVER ALSO PULLED OVER, I WAS EXPECTING SOME VERBAL ABUSE BUT HE WAS AN ELDERLY CHAP AND HE COMPLIMENTED ME ON HOW NICE THE BIKE SOUNDED - "I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING AS NICE AS THAT FOR YEARS", SO THAT TO ME WAS THE SOUND, PERFORMANCE AND INTERVAL PRODUCTION DETAILS SORTED.
