MATCHED PAIR OF HIGH PERFORMANCE CONRODS, SMALL JOURNAL ( DOMMIE)

THUNDER ENGINEERING (UK MADE) CONNECTING ROD FOR ROAD OR RACE SUPPLIED IN PAIRS. USE ON NORTON SMALL JOURNAL HEAVY TWINS :- 500CC AND 600CC WITH STANDARD SIZE PIN. FIT THESE RODS AND ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY OF A ROD FAILURE AND THE CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE THAT ENSUES.

NOTES RE THUNDER ENGINEERING CONRODS
THESE UK MADE THUNDER ENGINEERING LIGHTNING RODS ARE A PRECISION, HIGH STRENGTH, QUALITY CONNECTING ROD WHICH WHEN PROPERLY INSTALLED WILL PERFORM FAULTLESSLY IN YOUR RACING OR ROAD ENGINE.  
LENGTH: BIG AND SMALL END DIAMETERS ARE AS STANDARD.  THE SMALL END DOES NOT REQUIRE A BUSH AS ON THE LARGE JOURNAL RODS, THE GUDGEON PIN RUNS DIRECTLY IN THE CON ROD AND UNLIKE THE BUSHED SET UP WILL NOT WEAR OUT.
WEIGHT IS APPROX: 363 GRAMS EACH, AN ASSORTMENT OF STANDARD RODS WEIGHED IN AT 400/410 GRAMS.  
THESE CONNECTING RODS ARE SUPPLIED AS A MATCHED PAIR.
ENGINE RE BALANCING IS RECOMMENDED, DYNAMIC BALANCING BEING THE PREFERRED METHOD.

WE WOULD LIKE TO OFFER SOME SUGGESTIONS THAT SHOULD BE HELPFUL IN YOUR INSTALLATION.

BOLTS
ALL BOLTS SHOULD BE LUBRICATED UNDER THE HEADS AS WELL AS THE THREADS USING HIGH QUALITY ENGINE OIL. DO NOT USE LOCTITE.
THE BOLTS SHOULD BE TIGHTENED EVENLY TO BRING THE CAP AND ROD TOGETHER.  THEN TORQUED TO 15FT LBS FOR THE INITIAL SETTING, THEY SHOULD THEN BE FULLY TIGHTENED TO 40-43 FT LBS.

YOU WILL NEED A GOOD QUALITY 3/8" A.F BI HEX OR 12 POINT SOCKET FOR THE CONROD BOLTS.

CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO ENSURE THE ROD CLEARS THE BOTTOM OF THE CYLINDER BARREL AND THE CRANKCASES WHEN THE ENGINE IS TURNED OVER.  THE CYLINDER BARREL SKIRT CAN BE SLOTTED IN THE STANDARD MANNER OR THE EXISTING SLOTS ENLARGED AS REQUIRED.  IF YOU DO ALTER THE SLOTS ALL SHARP EDGES SHOULD BE FILED AND THEN SMOOTHED WITH ABRASIVE PAPER TO PROVIDE A SMOOTH AND BLENDED FINISH.
WHILST EVERY CARE IS TAKEN TO ENSURE THESE CONRODS ARE A DIRECT REPLACEMENT FOR STANDARD ONES SOME FETTLING MAY BE REQUIRED AND IN SOME CASES IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO CHAMFER THE BIG END BOLTS.

PLEASE NOTE: THESE CONRODS ARE DOWELLED, THIS IMPROVES RIGIDITY AND PREVENTS DISTORTION.  IT DOES MAKE THE BIG END CAP FEEL TIGHT.  IN ORDER TO SEPARATE THE BIG END CAP FROM THE CONROD BODY SLACKEN THE BOLTS 1/4 OF AN INCH, CAREFULLY GRIP THE END CAP IN A SOFT JAWED VICE AND GENTLY ROCK THE CONROD BODY BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS WHILST LIFTING GENTLY.
IT IS THE ENGINE BUILDERS RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THESE CONRODS ARE FITTED CORRECTLY.
